I did a cool thing this weekend, which was to drop $100 USD on a Steamworks account. This means I can soon start developing a Steam page for Rorasuketo, and maybe this will light a little bit of a fire under my ass to get this thing done. Not sure when I'll actually publish the page - and whether it will exist as "coming soon" or only after it's ready for purchase - but I've at least put in an investment that goads me into putting something out there.
Homework hasn't piled up yet, but I am still feeling a little worn out from the winter break work blitz, so I am meeting in the middle by doing what I'll call "nuts and bolts." You could also call it quasi-procrastination. Deciding where Achievements are going to go, making checklists to ensure I don't miss anything before exporting the final product, writing the walkthrough, deciding price points, that kind of thing. Dare I even say I networked a little bit with a Let's Player with about 50,000 subscribers? They may not end up playing my game - much less on their stream - but they expressed interest and wished me well, which was really sweet of them. They could have easily told me to fuck off and leave them alone, which would have been fair. So that was encouraging!
I'm still struggling with the events for derby bouts. There's some kind of mental block happening where I feel completely stuck. Like I can't even turn on the part of my brain that figures things out. Blackout. Is it perfectionism? It's definitely been hard moving on from the JRPG battle system - I think it's the choice I had to make, but I need time and brainpower to work through the flow of the alternative. I think I might have to take out a white board and start just making some kind of flow chart. Get a pen moving. Something to unfreeze my brain. It feels not unlike when I was taking General Chemistry II and could not begin to wrap my head around the most basic principles. It's a scary feeling, like falling off a mountain and desperately trying to grab at anything that will slow your descent, but somehow you're whiffing everything.
I did spend a little time checking out what roller derby games are out there. I've been aware of Roller Drama and Skate & Date hit Steam last fall. I should probably play both and see how they handle derby. I'm dreadfully curious.
