Setting expectations.

I had some pretty big plans for Rorasuketo, but those plans have been broken up by months of paralysis. It's a state of terror where it seems too big of a project to touch, and the thing is so intimidating I don't know where to start. So no progress is made.

I decided yesterday that it was time to scale things back. A finished project is more important than a flawless project. My original plan was for the player to have a choice between 3 jobs, each with 3 mini-games. But that was too much, so now the player has one mini-game of each of the 3 jobs. That's 3 mini-games to program instead of 9. One is done, so that leaves 2, not 8, to do next. A load off.

Likewise, I wanted to give the player the option of going through their derby career as a blocker, pivot, or jammer. That would require each bout day to have different battles with different strategies depending on the position. That would mean setting up 96 different battle scenarios. Instead, you'll try each position on a linear derby career. That means setting up 24 battles. This is far less intimidating.

I would love to have more replayability, but between someone playing the game once or playing it zero times, a finished game has more replayability than an unfinished one.

I am California dreamin' on such a winter's day.
